Strong Defensive Effort Highlights MSOE Home Opener

Box Score

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Freshman Sydney Stephens (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) looked string and made 11 saves in goal, but it was not enough as the MSOE women's soccer team fell to North Park 1-0 on the first day of the Raider Invitational Friday at MSOE Field.

The Raiders (1-2) will now play in the tournament consolation game Saturday at 4 p.m. against Loras. Meanwhile, the Vikings (2-1) advance to the championship match against Calvin at 2:30 p.m.

Emma Lundeen scored the game's lone goal with just two and half minutes remaining in regulation. She was freed on a long pass down the far side by a pass from Anna LaMantia. She dribbled into the box and finished far post for the eventual game-winner.

After a scoreless first half, where MSOE fought for momentum going into the intermission, the MSOE defense bent, but did not break for the majority of the second frame. The Raiders were outshot 15-2 in the second half, with the defense forcing a number of longer shots off target.

Stephens was strong in goal with a few sprawling saves to keep her team in the match. Unfortunately, the offense was unable to get on track against the Vikings. Paola Andrade made three saves for the shutout.

Senior Paula Bohl (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the MSOE offense, taking a team-high three shots and posing a threat to North Park through the midfield. Sophomore Caitlin Liddiard (Waukesha, Wis./South) had a pair of shots and put both on goal.
