Box Score MILWAUKEE – Four different players scored goals, including three in the second half, as the MSOE women's soccer team picked up its first NACC win of the season, 4-1 over Marian, Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
The Raiders (5-3, 1-1 NACC) and Sabres (3-5, 0-2 NACC) were tied at 1-1 at halftime, but the home side proved to be too much after the break.
Junior Ally Brehm scored the winner, while freshman Shelby Namen scored her first collegiate goal and juniors Erika Spanbauer and Maria Schumacher also scored.
MSOE was the aggressors throughout the night, pressuring Marian into its defensive half and dominating the possession throughout.
Despite that, it was the Sabres striking first in the 17th minute off the foot of Alyssa Lennon. The goal gave MU a bit of momentum as the play evened out for a bit, but an equalizer was coming shortly.
Namen equalized in the 24th minute, finishing off a ball in the penalty area from six yards out. Junior Sara Travia got the play started with a slotted pass into the box. Senior Natalie Gayner settled the ball for Namen to finish.
Just under four minutes after halftime, Brehm put the Raiders ahead for good off a corner kick. Junior Becca Keller sent her corner to the far post where a Sabre defender was able to get in the way. Fortunately, the ball bounded back in front of the goal and Brehm was there to put the ball in the net with her torso.
Spanbauer and Schumacher scored just under three minutes apart in the 75th and 78th minutes respectively. Spanbauer accepted a through ball slipped past the defense by Gayner and beat the keeper. Schumacher's score was a free kick from 25 yards out that found the net at the far post.
MSOE held a commanding 23-6 shot advantage and 9-2 edge in corner kicks. The Red & White put 15 of those shots on frame.
Sophomore Mary McFee got the start and made one save on the night to get the win. Alysha Kallas started for Marian and made 11 saves.
The Raiders return to the field Saturday, hosting Concordia Wisconsin.
