Box Score MILWAUKEE – Junior Clay Gustafson scored five goals to become the program's all-time leading goal-scorer and the MSOE lacrosse team scored a school-record 25 goals in routing Concordia Chicago 25-2 Wednesday night at Viets Field.
The Raiders (4-5, 3-1 MLC) scored six goals in the first quarter and nine in the second to open a 15-1 lead on the Cougars (0-8, 0-3 MLC) before coasting to the victory.
Gustafson entered the night trailing Brent Finnegan's (2012-15) record of 84 goals by three. He netted his third goal of the night with 6:38 remaining before halftime and No. 85 followed at the 3:53 mark of the quarter. He added three assists for eight points on the night.
MSOE's 25 goals eclipsed the program record for goals in a game set March 25 at Fontbonne. Junior Oliver Winsor matched Gustafson with five goals in the game, as five Raiders finished with at least three goals in the game. Junior Oliver Kennedy, sophomore Jack Fisher, and freshman Collin Fisher scored three goals each and freshman Harrison Davies, Brett Laffey, and John Wilson scored two goals each.
The Red & White was on the attack all night and, at times, scored goals at a fast and furious pace. In the second quarter, the team tallied six goals in a 2:14 span, including scores 11, 16, and 36 seconds apart. Then, it scored its final three goals of the period just 26 seconds part.
Every healthy player for MSOE saw action in the game, including all three goalies. Junior Pat Collins played the first half and made four saves for the win. Freshmen Colin Hall and Jack Collins split the second half, with Hall making one save and Jack Collins three of his own.
The Raiders outshot the Cougars 51-16 in the game and won 22-of-31 face-offs. They also held a sizable 39-19 advantage in ground balls and were successful on 16-of-18 clear attempts, compared to just 10-for-22 by CUC.
MSOE returns to the field Saturday, hosting Northland at 1 p.m.
