Wrestling Comes Up Short in Season Opener

DECATUR, Ill. – MSOE wrestling opened up their 2022-23 season against the Millikin Big Blue on Wednesday night, a team that won their third straight CCIW title last year. While the Raiders didn't come away with the victory, the team had an impressive first meet that could be a sign of good things to come during this campaign.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 21
Millikin – 30

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MSOE (0-1, 0-1 CCIW) had to settle for forfeits in the first three matches of the dual but very nearly made a comeback to challenge for the match against a Millikin (2-0, 2-0 CCIW) squad that they lost to by the score of 52-0 last year.
  • The Raiders took all 18 points in the 157, 165, and 174 weight classes with Michael Smith, Harry Nemcek, and Joseph Estrada all getting victories via fall.
  • Noah Nieberle picked up a 3-2 decision in the 285 weight class, but with losses at 184 and 197, the Red & White comeback fell just short in a nine point defeat to the Big Blue.

WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders next event on the docket will be the annual MSOE Invitational inside the Kern Center on Saturday, December 3rd. Action is scheduled to start at 9:00 am.
