Women's Basketball Overpowers Lakeland

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's basketball team resumed their season on Tuesday night, in a clash with conference opponent Lakeland University.  The Raiders would blow the doors off the Muskies in the third quarter, outscoring Lakeland 21-4 on the way to a 66-51 conference win.

RESULT

MSOE RAIDERS – 66

Lakeland Muskies - 51

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (6-6, 2-1 NACC) and Muskies (5-7, 2-1 NACC) took a few minutes to get their offenses on track before Lakeland took an 8-4 lead just after the midway point of the first quarter.  Shelby Glodowski and Mahima Chokshi would each hit their free throws as the quarter winded down with the teams knotted up at 12 points apiece.  Lakeland would go on a 10-3 run to start the second quarter, putting the Muskies up seven points in what would turn out to be their largest lead of the game.  Lana Kerley and Halena Hill would go back-and-forth knocking down big shots for the Red and White as they brought the Raiders within a point at the halftime break by a score of 26-25 in favor of Lakeland.
  • MSOE would go on a tear coming out of the half, holding Lakeland scoreless for over seven minutes of play as the Red and White went up by as much as 18 points in the third frame.  Kerley would catch fire on her way to a double-double, hitting back-to-back threes to the delight of the fans at the Kern Center as the Raiders outscored the Muskies 21-4 in the third quarter.  Lakeland was unable to bring the lead back down from double digits as the Raiders secured their second conference win of the season.
