FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The MSOE women's soccer team took on the Marian University Sabres on Wednesday night, as the Red and White looked to secure their fifth straight conference win. A late strike from the Sabres would halt the Raiders winning streak, as MSOE settled for a 1-1 draw after being matched by the opposition at every turn.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Marian University Sabres – 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (5-4-2, 4-0-1 NACC) and Marian (5-4-3, 2-2-1 NACC) would remain deadlocked through the first 30 minutes of play, trading shots back-and-forth as Claire Bradford and Rosario Etcheverria Abuin were unable to break through for the Red and White in the opening moments. As the Raiders began to build momentum on the offensive end, it was Elizabeth Kuhn who would put MSOE in the driver's seat, playing a ball off her head before driving down the right side, juking Sabres left and right as she finished the play off with a left footed strike to the back of the net. Page Sanchez would stop one final Sabre shot before the halftime buzzer as the Raiders led 1-0 after 45 minutes of play.
- Coming out of the break, the Raiders and Sabres continued to go shot for shot, as the Raiders saw shots go wide, while the Sabres shots were stopped by Sanchez. With just over 20 minutes left to play, Marian would score the equalizer, knotting things up at 1-1 and turning the heat up on the Raiders. Abuin would see two shots saved as both teams began to push for a go-ahead goal, with neither able to find the back of the net. With just a few minutes left to go, a deep shot from Kit Gormley would prove to be the last scoring chance of the evening for the Raiders, as their five-game winning streak was stopped by the Sabres.
