MILWAUKEE – After dropping the first two sets, the MSOE women's volleyball team would rally back for a thrilling third set before ultimately falling to Illinois Institute of Technology.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 0
Illinois Tech - 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (4-17, 2-5 NACC) grabbed the momentum early as Gillian McDaniel nailed three early kills to give them a 7-4 lead. Illinois Tech (8-12, 4-4 NACC) began to find a sense of rhythm, going on a 9-2 run, easing to a set one win 25-16. After the Scarlet Hawks took an 11-6 lead to begin the second, a kill from Brenna Fledderman lit a spark in the Raider offense for them to go on a run as an ace from Natalie Martinez tied the set at 17. The Raiders unfortunately would allow the Scarlet Hawks to close on an 8-0 run to steal the set 25-17.
- The Raiders refused to let the Scarlet Hawks pull away early in the third set as they would take an 11-9 lead early on after a kill from McDaniel. The Scarlet Hawks would eventually take a 19-14 lead hoping shades of the previous sets would appear, but back-to-back kills from Katie Taticek and a massive block from Joelle Harrington and Alyssa Rusch aided the Raiders to a 5-0 to run to tie the set at 19. After the Scalet Hawks would eventually get to match point 24-22, kills from Ashley Murphy and Ana Knutson would tie the set. Unfortunately, the Scarlet Hawks would trickle off the final two point to seal the match, 26-24.
