Dopirak Drops 29 as Raiders Outpace Foresters

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's basketball team secured their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, as four different Raiders reached double digit scoring figures against the Foresters, led by Mason Dopirak and his 29 points.

FINAL SCORE
RV MSOE RAIDERS – 93
Lake Forest College - 86

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams went back-and-forth trading the lead to open the first twenty minutes of play, with the Raiders (1-1, 0-0 NACC) and Foresters (0-3, 0-0 MWC) deadlocked at 19-19 midway through the half.  Jonathan Burroughs would convert an and-one opportunity to push the momentum towards the Red and White, but the Foresters would not back down as MSOE and LFC continued to trade leads.  Mason Dopirak would nail two free throws to give MSOE the 44-43 lead as the teams went to the break, in a contest that would finish with nineteen lead changes.
  • A layup from Mas. Dopirak and a three from Chase Cummings would give the Raiders and early two possession lead to open the second half, with the MSOE lead reaching as much as nine points by the 15:49 mark.  Lake Forest would try to use a full court trap to limited success, as MSOE worked their lead up to fourteen points on a layup from Matus Dopirak in his return to the court. The Foresters three-point shooting kept them in the mix with the Raiders however, as Lake Forest cut the MSOE lead to just four points with under two minutes to play.  Looking to put the game on ice, Cummings found a cutting Carson Cordelli, who fought through a foul to earn three points the old-fashioned way, as MSOE locked up their first victory of the season in the high-scoring thriller.
