ANGOLA, Ind. – The MSOE Women's Hockey team went toe-to-toe with the Spartans of Trine University on Friday night, with both teams remaining scoreless through 65 minutes of play, as the Raiders recorded a shootout win on the ice, but settle for a tie in the standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (2-4-1, 2-2-1 NCHA) and Trine (1-3-1, 1-3-1 NCHA) exchanged momentum across the first period, with each team having long stretches of puck control and sustained offense. The Raiders would outshoot the Thunder 13-7 in the first period, but neither team found the back of the net as they went to the first intermission. The Red and White successfully killed off a penalty to open the second period, with Laura Melizza and the MSOE defense stopping every shot they faced from the Thunder. Lucy Sheehan would record two shots on net coming down the stretch of the second period, but the Raiders would have to switch gears and head back to the penalty kill, shutting down another Trine powerplay as the teams remained scoreless through the second intermission.
- In the final period of regulation, MaryFrancis Williams saw two early shots blocked and saved by the Spartans with Helen Bechthold adding another almost-goal to the Raiders totals. The Raiders would shut down two more Thunder powerplays in the third period, with Kiera Ballweg and Darby Boughan recording critical blocked shots for the Red and White. The Raiders would go on the powerplay with one minute to go in regulation of the scoreless contest, carrying their powerplay over to the overtime period. Lexi Jackson and Arial Lapsa would see their shots stopped as the extra period began to wind down, with Emily Reiner recording one last shot on goal for the Raiders as overtime expired.
- Despite the tie in the official stands, the Raiders would take the moral victory in the shootout, as Hannah Baumann converted on the second attempt from the Red and White, with Melizza stopping all three Trine attempts as the Raiders look ahead to the rematch with the Spartans tomorrow night.
