Women's Hockey Stifles the Sabres

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE Women's Hockey team rocked the Marian Sabres on Sunday evening, as the Raiders hit the pedal and sped to a 3-1 win as they fight for a home playoff series with the regular season winding down.

FINAL SCORE
Marian Sabres – 1

MSOE RAIDERS - 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (9-10-2, 6-6-2 NCHA) got the advantage over Marian (10-10-0, 7-7-0 NCHA) just 3:50 into the first period, with the Raiders outshooting the Sabres twelve to four in the first period.  MaryFrancis Williams would catch Marian off-guard during an MSOE line change, burying the puck in the back of the net to give the Red and White an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Sabres would record the game tying goal just under two minutes into the second period, with the Raiders looking to avoid repeating yesterday's mistakes and limit the Marian damage.  The Red and White would regain the lead just after the mid-way point of the frame, taking advantage of a Sabre penalty as Hannah Baumann tallied a powerplay goal thanks to an assist from Williams.  Jenna Kent would stop every shot Marian put on goal the rest of the way, with Sara Kopf helping her goalie out as she added four blocked shots to her stat line.
  • After the Raiders had things all locked up, Marian would take a late cross-checking penalty with just sixteen seconds left.  Gray Mandia would add the cherry on top of the victory Sunday, tallying the second powerplay goal of the evening for the Raiders as they secured the 3-1 win and leapfrogged the Sabres in the conference standings.
