Women's Basketball Victorious Against No. 5 Eagles; Advance to NACC Tournament Semifinal

MILWAUKEE – The No. 4 seed MSOE women's basketball team opened the NACC tournament on Wednesday night as they hosted the No. 5 seed Benedictine Eagles inside Edgar Hotchkin Arena.  The Raiders hot start propelled them past the opposition as the Red and White earned their spot in the semifinals.

FINAL SCORE

Benedictine Eagles – 46
MSOE RAIDERS – 70

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (18-6, 12-4 NACC) went on an 18-4 run to open the contest, with Lana Kerley and Dani Mendez combining for thirteen of the first eighteen points for the Raiders.  The Eagles (17-9, 10-6 NACC) would connect on their final two shots of the first quarter, as the Red and White led 20-11 after the first frame expired.  The Raiders would hold the Eagles to just eight points in the second quarter, as the MSOE defense held Benedictine to 28% shooting from the field, and 0% from three-point range.  After another jumper from Kerley, who would finish with her fourth double-double of the season, the Red and White led 31-19 heading to the break.
  • Coming out of halftime the Raiders would quickly force two Benedictine turnovers, with a layup from Aleah Butterbrodt and three pointer from Mahima Chokshi upping the MSOE to seventeen points just two minutes into the third frame.  After the Eagles brought the Raider lead back down to thirteen points with one quarter to play, the Red and White had the No. 5 seed in their rearview mirror in no time.  A Halena Hill three pointer would push the MSOE lead to 20 points as Hotchkin Arena reached a fever pitch for the second consecutive evening.  The Red and White would empty the bench from there, as the Raiders cruised to victory in the final minutes of the contest.  The Raiders advance to the NACC Tournament semifinals for the second consecutive season, as they gear up for a rematch against the No. 1 seed Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors.
