Men's Wrestling Wins NACC Wrestling Tournament

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's wrestling team won the annual NACC Showcase on Friday night, as the Raiders avenged their early-season loss to the Lakeland Muskies and vanquish the defending champion Aurora Spartans as they took the 1st place at the second iteration of the tournament.

Lakeland Muskies – 9
MSOE RAIDERS – 28

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs. Lakeland University
    • The Raiders took the first four matches against the Muskies, highlighted by a 19-4 tech. fall win from Alex Morales at 149, as MSOE jumped out to an early 16-0 lead over Lakeland.
    • After dropping bouts at 157 and 165, Toren Vandenbush and Jackson Hughes scored back-to-back decision wins for the Red and White, locking things up for the Raiders at 22-6.
    • Gavin Graham scored the final win of the dual for the Raiders with a first-round pinfall victory in just 2:15, as the Raiders advanced to the championship bouts by a final score of 28-9.
  • vs. Aurora University
    • The Red and White started things off in a big way with a major decision from Lane Andersen putting MSOE ahead from jump street.  After the Spartans scored a fall win at 133, Liam Anderson would work his way back from an early deficit to score a comeback 8-5 decision to a raucous ovation from the crowd in Edgar Hotchkin Arena.
    • A Ben Messier major decision at 157 gave MSOE a 14-6 lead, before the Spartans got back into things with a controversial finish at 165.  Vandenbush would pick up his second win of the afternoon with a 13-1 major decision win.
    • With the Raiders leading 17-12 with just two bouts left, Graham would come through in the clutch for MSOE, scoring a massive pinfall win to clinch the tournament championship for the Red and White, who went on to win 23-16.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will compete next weekend at the CCIW Championships, beginning with the futures tournament on Friday, February 13th in Kenosha, Wis.
