TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The MSOE Men's tennis team played their last spring tune-up match before the start of conference play on Wednesday night, as the Raiders fell to Rose-Hulman in a nail-biter.
RESULT
Rose-Hulman – 4
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders were unable to wrangle the doubles point away from Rose-Hulman, despite a 6-4 win from Miguel Lopez and Clark Rue from the #2 doubles spot. Both Rue and Lopez would drop their singles bouts, with the Raiders needed to take all four remaining bouts to win.
- Augusto Eiji Yamazaki and Pedro Rezende Mendes each avenged their doubles loss with wins in singles play, as Yamazaki won in straight sets by scores of 710 – 68, 6-2. Mendes would need a third-set tiebreaker to secure his victory, bringing the Raiders back within striking distance.
- Carlos Lopez would triumph in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 from the #4 singles spot, but it was not enough to secure the win as Rose-Hulman captured thew final singles bout, ending the Raiders comeback just shy of victory.
