Softball Swept by Eagles in Conference Clash

FRANKLIN, Wis. – The MSOE softball team clashed with the Benedictine Eagles for another NACC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders were swept by the Eagles after pushing the first game of the set to extra innings.

RESULTS

Benedictine University – 4
MSOE RAIDERS - 3

Benedictine University - 7
MSOE RAIDERS - 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (5-21, 2-10 NACC) got ahead of Benedictine (22-6, 8-4 NACC) in the very first inning, as a Jayda Nelson double brought Rikka Ludvigson around for an early lead for the Red and White.  A two-run homer from the Eagles in the top of the third would give Benedictine the edge, with the Raiders responding in the bottom of the fifth, as an Autumn Sadler single scored Reese Konczal
    • Both teams would remain scoreless through the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, before the Eagles took a 4-2 lead after an RBI single and error from the Raiders.  In the bottom of the frame, Caroline Fouras would score on an error to bring the Red and White within a run, but the Eagles would a fly ball to left field to take game one 4-3 in nine innings.
  • Game Two
    • In game two, the Eagles would launch a double with the bases loaded, taking a 3-0 lead over the Raiders in the top of the second inning.  Benedictine would double their lead on a fifth-inning rally, adding three more runs on five hits to go up 6-0 on the Red and White.
    • MSOE would get on the board in the bottom of the sixth, as Fouras singled to get on before a Lylah DeArmond single allowed the senior to scamper all the way around the bases and end the Eagles shutout.  From there it was all Benedictine, as they held on to sweep the Raiders, who remain on the outside of the NACC Tournament picture.

WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will be back in action tomorrow, April 19th, for a twinbill against the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College.  Game one of the doubleheader is set for first pitch at noon.
