Softball Extinguishes Inferno of Alverno

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE softball team continued their push for a playoff spot on Tuesday afternoon, as the Raiders swept the Alverno College Inferno in their last home games of the regular season.

RESULTS

Alverno College – 1
MSOE RAIDERS - 9

Alverno College - 3
MSOE RAIDERS - 6

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (10-24, 7-13 NACC) would surrender one run to Alverno (3-29, 1-19 NACC) in the top of the first after the Inferno took two bases on a sacrifice bunt to get into scoring position.  The Raiders would take the lead in the bottom of the frame after bases loaded walks to Jayda Nelson and Autumn Sadler gave the Red and White a 2-1 advantage.
    • In the bottom of the second, the Raiders would tag the Inferno for six runs on five hits and one error from Alverno, as Reese Konczal walked and stole second to kick off the rally from the Red and White.  Back-to-back doubles from Nelson and Carlee Emery would push the MSOE lead to 7-1, with Konczal singling to center field after the Raiders batted around the order, capping off the Red and White's rally at 8-1.
    • An Emma Smith triple and sacrifice fly from Lylah DeArmond would put the Raiders in position to run-rule the Inferno, as Katie Pollock handled things the rest of the way for MSOE, finishing with eight strikeouts in game one as the Red and White took the first leg of the twin bill by a score of 9-1.
  • Game Two
    • In game two, both teams remained scoreless after three innings of play, before the Inferno tallied the first run of the game on an RBI single in the top of the fourth.  The Raiders would immediately in the bottom of the frame, as Rikka Ludvigson blasted a ball to centerfield, staying in the park but taking a friendly bounce as the Red and White's catcher scampered around the bases for a go-ahead inside the park homerun.
    • With the Raiders leading 2-1, MSOE would add four more insurance runs in the fifth inning, as Noel Dahl kicked off the Red and White's run, recording six hits to push their lead to 6-1 with just two innings left to play.  After Marissa Collazo pitched the first 4.2, Kaitlyn DeNapoli would take over for the Raiders, taking the Red and White the rest of the way to close out the sweep with a 6-3 game two win.
