Men's Soccer Ties With Wartburg

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The MSOE men's soccer team clashed with the Wartburg College Knights in a thriller at Viets Field on Sunday afternoon, as the Red and White would settle for a draw after going back-and-forth with the opposition.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (1-3-1, 0-0-0 NACC) and Knights (1-1-3) would play up-and-down the pitch at a rapid pace to open the game, with Owen Pacetti feeding a perfect pass to Lachlan Ladd for the first goal of the game at the 30:40 mark of the first half.  With the Raiders looking to lead at the break, the Knights would sneak a goal past the Red and White with just 88 seconds remaining in the first half as the teams went to halftime deadlocked at one goal apiece.
  • In the second half, Andrew Calderon would not be denied as the freshman from Channahon, Illinois fought through the Knights a buried a shot on an unassisted effort, putting MSOE ahead 2-1 at the 54:45 mark.  The Knights would respond themselves less than five minutes of gametime later, as the teams were tied once again with 30 minutes to play.
  • After the physicality of the contest began to ramp up, offsetting yellow cards would reset the stage with 20 minutes left on the clock.  Steven Thomas would launch a masterclass of a pass to Juan Pablo Escobar, with Escobar making the most of the scoring chance just ten minutes after coming off the bench.  The sophomore from Bolingbrook, Illinois would give the Raiders a 3-2 lead with just under twelve minutes to play, with a red card being assessed against the Knights during the ensuing celebration.  Despite playing a man down, the Knights would tie the game up once more with less than ten minutes to play, as MSOE and Wartburg would settle for a 3-3 draw.

WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will open conference play on the road this Wednesday, September 16th, when they head to River Forest, Illinois for a matchup against Dominican University. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
