Men's Soccer Silences Stars with Short-Handed Comeback

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE men's soccer team made their way to Dominican University on Wednesday afternoon, as the Raiders played in their first conference clash of the season.  Despite trailing 2-0 in the final 20 minutes, the Red and White would spark a late rally to force a draw against the Stars.

RESULT

MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Dominican Stars - 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (1-3-2, 0-0-1 NACC) controlled the ball early against the Stars (2-1-1, 0-0-1 NACC) but it would be Dominican that would register the first goal on just their second shot of the game, as the opposition took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.  With less than ten minutes to play in the first half, the Red and White would be assessed a red card, putting MSOE a man down the rest of the way.
  • In the second half, the Stars would record their second goal at the 65:30 mark, going up 2-0 on the shorthanded Raiders, who would almost immediately begin to flip the script.  Less than ten minutes of gametime later, Owen Pacetti would feed Steven Thomas as the junior buried a goal in the top right corner of the net, cutting the MSOE deficit in half with fifteen minutes remaining.
  • With just under ten minutes to go, Ditar Useni would net the equalizer on an unassisted effort, tying the game up and taking any shine left away from the Stars.  The Raiders would hang on to secure the draw, as their furious man-down rally makes an early difference in the conference standings.
