MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's soccer team hosted their home opener on Saturday afternoon, as they faced off with the Cardinals of North Central College at Viets Field. The Raiders came up just short in the return to their home field, as a penalty kick goal from the Cardinals was the difference maker.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (0-2-0, 0-0-0 NACC) and Cardinals (2-0-1) engaged in a defensive slugfest for the first game on Viets Field this season. The Cardinals would take advantage of an unfortunate Raider handball inside of the box, as North Central converted the penalty kick attempt to go up 1-0 at the 13:42 mark of the first half. Despite MSOE outshooting NCC six-to-two in the first 45 minutes, the Cardinals 1-0 lead would hold at the break.
- In the second half, the physicality would ramp up, with three yellow cards being assessed against NCC. The Raiders would have a chance to tie the game up with just over ten minutes left off the foot of Jeremiah Shenouda, but the Cardinals goalkeeper would make a diving stop to hold off the Raiders. With six seconds left in the game following a Cardinal foul, Ditar Useni and Nico Picha would have an opportunity on an inadvertent free kick, but North Central blocked the MSOE shot to hand the Raiders their first home loss of the season.
