Box Score MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Shaylan Reardon scored a game-high 22 points and sophomore Holly Denfeld had a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds, but it was not enough as the MSOE women's basketball team fell to Marian 70-65 Wednesday evening at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Raiders (2-1, 1-1 NACC) led 62-61 with 3:01 to play, but saw the Sabres (5-0, 3-0 NACC) rattle off seven-straight points to take the lead for good.
Denfeld played all 40 minutes and posted her third-straight double-double to start the season. The sophomore duo was joined in double-figures by Megan Kroll with 15 points.
Marian put four players in double-digits, led by Sara Olewinski's 13 points. Emma Jarbey scored 12 points, Courtney Klister had 11 and Megan Lantz had 10.
MSOE trailed 68-62 with 49 seconds to go, but Reardon quickly answered with a three-pointer. After MU hit a free throw, the Raiders missed a three-pointer and was called for an offensive foul with under 10 seconds to go to cut the comeback short.
The game was back-and-forth from beginning to end with six ties and nine lead changes.
The Red & White shot 44.4 percent from the field, making 3-of-9 from three-point range. The team got to the free throw line 27 times, converting on 22. The Sabres shot 41.5 percent, converted 7-of-21 three-point attempts and went 19-for-29 at the free throw line.
MSOE returns to the court Saturday, hosting Alverno at the Kern Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in a game that is played as part of the Red Rivalry Cup.
