Raiders Fall to #1 St. Norbert in Front of Packed House

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE hockey team fell to No. 1 St. Norbert 4-1 in front of a near-capacity crowd of 951 fans Thursday evening at the Kern Center.

Junior Nick Kohn made 35 saves in the game for the Raiders (10-8, 5-6 NCHA) to stem the tide against the No. 1 offense (5.24 goals per game) in the country in the Green Knights (14-1-2, 10-0-1 NCHA).

Freshman Omar Mullan scored a power play goal at 16:52 of the third period to make it 3-1, but St. Norbert tacked on an empty net goal with 1:02 remaining to provide for the final tally.

SNC struck first just five minutes into the game on a Tyler Zepeda, but found it tough going to extend its lead. It took a two-man advantage in the second period to make it 2-0. Michael Hill struck for the power play goal at 11:35 of the period.

The game was made 3-0 at 11:57 of the third period when Ross Pavek lit the lamp with both teams down a man.

MSOE looked like it may break through on a trio of power plays over the first two periods. The team generated 12 shots, including seven on one power play in the second period. Incidentally, Mullan's goal came just 16 seconds into the Raiders' lone power play of the final period and on their only shot.

For the game, the Green Knights held a 39-22 shot advantage for the game. Both teams went 1-for-4 on the power play.

The series shifts to DePere Saturday, where these two teams will meet at 7 p.m.
