Five Raiders Score in 6-2 Win Over Finlandia

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Five different players scored goals as the MSOE hockey team raced to a 6-2 victory over Finlandia Friday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (12-8, 7-6 NCHA) got two goals from sophomore Brandon Unser and scored twice in each period in downing the visiting Lions (4-15-1, 3-10 NCHA) in the weekend series opener.

Freshman Omar Mullan got the scoring started just 13 seconds into the game. A hard hit at the blue line forced a loose puck and Mullan skated in on the goalie and lit the lamp to make it 1-0. Unser made it 2-0 at 6:15 off a pass from freshman Patrick Dwyer.

Finlandia pulled a goal back just 26 seconds later, when Devin Smith redirected in a shot from out near the blue line to cut its deficit to 2-1.

The Raiders struck twice more in the second period, as freshmen Chris Hinrichs and Eric Tien each scored. Hinrichs' first collegiate score came as he cut down the center of the ice and one-timed a pass from junior Patrick LeBeau behind the net at 9:46.

Tien netted a power play goal at 16:09 one-timing a crisp back-post pass from freshman Jerad Tafoya to make it 4-1.

In an offensive third period that saw MSOE hold a 15-5 shot advantage and tack on two more goals. Junior Kevin LoGuidice netted a goal at 1:13 of the period, taking a pass from behind the net and muscling it past the goalie. Unser then added his second goal at 12:16. Senior Logan Bauman took a slapshot off the face-off from near the blue line and Unser redirected it past the goalie to make it 6-1.

The Lions would add a consolation score at 14:26 to provide for the final margin.

The Raiders finished with a sizable 39-17 shot advantage in the game. Junior Nick Kohn made 15 saves for the Red & White, while Finlandia had a pair of goalies combine for 33 saves on the night.

The series wraps up Saturday at the Kern Center. Puck drops at 4 p.m.
