Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball hit.294 for the match and never trailed in sweeping past Alverno 25-18, 25-20, 25-9 Friday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (11-12, 2-6 NACC) were tied just once as they opened early leads in each set to roll past the Inferno (7-17, 0-7 NACC).
Junior Maria Bintz and freshman Hannah Pekarek had seven kills apiece to lead MSOE. Bintz hit .412 in the match, while senior Kasey Mylin tallied five kills in five attacks for the Red & White.
Melissa Weyand led Alverno with nine kills, while Jessica Wewers added seven.
MSOE took control of the opening set early, rattling off a 9-3 run for a 10-4 advantage. The lead remained between four and six until AC scored four-straight points to pull within two at 19-17. The Raiders quickly responded with five-straight points and closed out the frame with a 6-1 run.
In the second set, the Red & White jumped out ahead 10-4 again. This time, an 8-1 run pulled the home team away. Alverno did pull off five-straight points to pull within four, but a 4-1 mini-run
The decisive set was the Raiders most efficient. They scored the first five points on their way to opening another 10-4 lead. The Red & White then went on a 13-2 run put the set well out of reach at 23-6.
After hitting .310 in the second set, MSOE attacked at a .438 clip in the third. It also tallied 12 service aces in the match. The Inferno was limited to -.012 hitting on the night.
The Raiders return to action Tuesday at Lakeland.
