Box Score 2 LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE women's volleyball team opened the Forester Invitation Friday evening at the Sports & Rec Center with a pair of wins over host Lake Forest 3-1 and Marian 3-0.
The Raiders (4-0) took down the host Foresters (1-1) in the opening match, 25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, and came back to briskly down the Sabres (0-2), 25-17, 25-17, 25-14.
Senior Leah Hendricks posted her third-straight double-double to start the season against LFC, collecting 12 kills and 16 digs. Freshman Hannah Pekarek added nine kills and 17 digs, while both she and Hendricks tallied three service aces.
Junior Sarabeth Haworth aided the defense with 17 digs and sophomore Abby Born added 11 digs to go with her 31 assists.
The Red & White fell behind in the opening set 9-3 and still trailed late in the frame, 21-17, before closing out the set on an 8-1 run. In the second game, MSOE got out on the front foot with a 7-2 lead, but the Foresters came back for a 15-12 advantage. An 8-3 run put the Raiders back in the driver's seat down the stretch for a 2-0 lead in the match.
Lake Forest pulled back a game in the third set, but MSOE jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the fourth game and never looked back in claiming the victory.
In the second match of the day, the Red & White limited the Sabres to just -.008 hitting to sweep past their league foes in just over an hour.
Junior Rachel Lynde led the way with 12 kills. Pekarek had 16 digs, Haworth 15 and freshman Shelby Borchardt 11 to drive the defensive effort.
The Raiders are back in action Saturday, closing out the tournament with matches against Greenville at 10 a.m. and UW-River Falls at noon.
