Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Junior Holly Denfeld had 25 points and senior Megan Kroll 22 as the MSOE women's basketball team rolled to its 11th-straight win, 76-60 over Concordia Chicago Saturday afternoon at Geiseman Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Raiders (11-4, 9-1 NACC) moved into sole possession of first place in the conference standings, while defeating the Cougars (6-8, 4-6 NACC) for the second time in two weeks.
Kroll had a big afternoon, adding nine rebounds, seven assists, eight steals and four blocked shots. She also got to the free throw line 20 times and made a school and league-record 16. Denfeld shot 12-for-16 from the field in the game and grabbed seven rebounds.
Junior Margaret Pugh also reached double-figures in points with 10.
Concordia Chicago had three double-digit scorers, led by Morgan Johnke's 12 points. Angelik Young scored 11 points and Lauren Orr chipped in 10.
After the teams played a tight game Jan. 2 in Milwaukee that necessitated late-game heroics for the Raiders, they took control of the game early. MSOE opened the game with a 17-4 run and led 17-6 after one quarter.
In the second frame, the Red & White already held an 11-point lead before rattling off another 10-0 punctuated by a three-pointer from freshman Kiana Jeremiah to open a game-high 21-point lead at 36-15. The Cougars would get no closer than 11 the remainder of the game.
The Raiders shot an efficient 47.1 percent for the game and prevented CUC from gaining any traction late by converting on 23-of-29 free throw attempts. The home team shot 37.5 percent on the day.
Neither team protected the ball well, with 61 combined turnovers (CUC 31, MSOE 30). The Red & White finished with 16 steals in the game, led by Kroll and four from senior Marly Trier. Concordia Chicago tallied 21 steals in the game.
MSOE returns to the court Tuesday at Wisconsin Lutheran.
