MILWAUKEE – Freshman Kevin Shand scored his first two collegiate goals to cap a 4-3 victory for the MSOE hockey team over UW-Stout Friday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (2-3-2) trailed the Blue Devils (4-3) 2-0 after one period, but rattled off three unanswered goals to get back in the game.

Shand's first goal gave MSOE its first lead of the game at 3-2 with the team's second goal in the first 1:18 of the third period. After UWS equalized, Shand struck again, this time for the winner at 16:45 to cap the comeback.

After a tentative first period, the Raiders seized momentum in the game in the second period with a 9-2 shot advantage. They were patient for their first goal, though unable to get it on one of four power plays in the frame. Sophomore Michael Romund pulled the first goal back at 10:27 of the frame to halve the visitor's lead.

MSOE jumped on the Blue Devils in the third period. Junior Jerad Tafoya lit the lamp with the equalizer just 17 seconds into the final period. Shand then followed at 1:18.

Stout did not go away, netting its third power play goal of the night to tie the score at 3-3.

After Shand's go-ahead goal, the Raider defense held off a last-ditch effort by the Blue Devils. The visitors played the final 1:03 with an empty net, but MSOE held fast against the extra attacker to close out the win.

Senior Austin Campbell made 19 saves in goal for his first win of the season. Tommy Ahlgren stopped 26 shots for UWS.

MSOE finished with a 30-22 shot advantage, getting 12 shots on seven power plays, but came away empty-handed. Stout was a robust 3-for-6 with the man advantage. There were 16 total penalties on the night, seven on the Red & White and nine on UWS.

The win was the Raiders seventh-straight against a team from the WIAC. They will look to continue their run Saturday when they host UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
