Box Score MILWAUKEE – Senior Nick Kohn made 36 saves as the MSOE hockey team fell to No. 1 St. Norbert 4-1 Thursday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (14-9-1, 9-9-1 NCHA) got a late goal from sophomore Jerad Tafoya, but that was all they could muster against the Green Knights' (20-2-2, 16-2-1 NCHA) defense.
In the first period, SNC used a quick transition in the first period to get a breakaway opportunity that led to the night's first goal at 3:42. On the breakaway, Kohn stopped the first shot, but Erik Cooper followed through with the rebound to put the Green Knights ahead.
Noah Nelson then doubled the visitor's advantage at 15:44 of the second period, pouncing on a loose puck in front of the net and lighting the lamp with a wrist shot.
The teams combined for three goals in the third period as St. Norbert pushed its lead to three. The Green Knights struck first at 3:24 and, after the Tafoya score, they capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play to make it 4-1.
Tafoya's goal made it a two-goal game at 12:32. Senior Kevin LoGiudice found him in front of the net with a sharp centering pass and Tafoya made a one-time redirection into the goal.
MSOE was outshot 40-23 in the game, but gained some momentum in the final period, holding a 13-11 advantage in the frame. The Raiders killed off 4-of-5 power plays, but went 0-for-3 with their own man advantage.
T.J. Black made 22 saves for St. Norbert.
The series and the regular season wraps up Friday night in DePere. The two teams will face-off at 7 p.m.
