Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE hockey team scored two goals in the third period to twice overcome one-goal deficits and skate to a 2-2 tie with Lawrence Friday night at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (12-7-1, 7-7-1 NCHA) rebounded from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 in the third period to pull even with the Vikings (6-12-2, 5-8-2 NCHA) and force the overtime period.
Lawrence struck first early in the second period as Brandon Boelter scored at the 4:51 mark for a 1-0 lead after two periods. That advantage came despite a 27-13 shot advantage for the Red & White over that time.
Opened the scoring in an exciting final frame of regulation. Senior Evan Wilson knotted the score at 1-1 just 5:55 into the period. He was assisted by sophomores Jerad Tafoya and James Ring, as Wilson finished off with a hard shot from the left win.
The Vikings would pull back ahead with a power-play score just under four minutes later, this time it was Josh Koepplinger with the goal.
Trailing 2-1 in the final minute, the Red & White got its equalizer once again, as junior Jordan Guth netted a power-play score of his own. With the Raiders on the man advantage, the puck was flung in front of the net. Guth controlled it a put it past the goalie at 16:18 of the period.
While the action of the first two frames was concentrated in front of the Lawrence goal, the third period was back-and-forth with a slight 17-16 shot advantage for the visitors.
The play remained open in the overtime period, but neither team was able to find the goal as the game ended in a tie. Senior Nick Kohn came up with a point-blank save in the waning seconds of the frame to secure the result.
Kohn finished with 30 saves for the Red & White. Lawrence got 44 stops from Mattias Soderqvist. MSOE held a 46-32 shot advantage in the game and both teams were 1-for-4 on the power play attempts.
The series wraps up Saturday evening in Appleton. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
