Gustafson Scores Seven in Lacrosse's 17-5 Win

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Junior Clay Gustafson scored seven goals and the MSOE lacrosse team defeated Northland 17-5 Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (5-5) broke open a 2-2 game with the Lumberjacks (3-8) by scoring seven unanswered goals to take a 9-2 lead into halftime and never looked back.

Gustafson's seven goals are tied for the second-most in a game in school history. He also scored seven on April 6, 2016, while the record is nine goals by Brent Finnegan on April 25, 2015.

Freshman Collin Fisher had five goals in the game and junior Oliver Kennedy added two.

MSOE and Northland traded goals to open the game, with Fisher scoring just 17 seconds into the match and NC equalizing just over three minutes later. Gustafson scored his first goal with 9:20 to go in the first quarter and the Lumberjacks tied it at 4:01.

The Red & White then rattled off three goals in quick succession over the final 1:31, with junior Thomas Reid making it 3-2 at 1:32. Fisher then scored at 0:28 and Gustafson beat the clock to make it 5-2 just two seconds before the end of the frame.

Gustafson scored two of the team's four second-period goals, including one of its two up goals. After Northland pulled a goal back just 17 seconds into the second half, the Raiders rattled off another eight consecutive goals.

The visitors tacked on a pair of man-up goals in the final minutes to provide for the final score.

Andrew Henderson led NC with three goals and an assist.

Junior Pat Collins made 11 saves in goal in 52:30 for the win.

The Raiders return to the field Wednesday at Concordia Wisconsin.
