Hockey Back And Forth Battle Ends In Tie

Box Score

Adrian, Mich. – After a tough weekend against St. Norbert seven days ago, MSOE hockey made the trip to Michigan to take on their first officially ranked team of the 2019-20 season. While the Raiders had the upper hand for most of the contest, #12 Adrian fought back in what would end up a 4-4 tie on Friday night.

RESULT IN OVERTIME
MSOE – 4
#12 Adrian – 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
Much like an elementary school playground, Friday's contest was a preverbal seesaw battle. Almost every successful scoring opportunity was followed up by another one from the opposite team. MSOE (6-4-3, 1-4-3 NCHA/S) drew first blood when Will Gauthier scored on the power play thanks to the helper from Matt Hanewall at 10:35. #12 Adrian (8-4-2, 6-2-1 NCHA/S) answered back six minutes later, but Jack Nickels would reinstate the one goal advantage with just 28 seconds left thanks to Hanewall and Evan Kearns.

The second period was much of the same. Jeff Makowski put the Raiders up by two just 3:31 into the frame with the assists going to Kyle Herbster and Christian Sabin. Three straight man-up goals would follow with the Bulldogs getting two. However, Brandon Turer was able to keep the slight advantage in the favor of the Red & White heading into the final period of play.

All was quiet in the third period, with the only goal coming with just 58 seconds left in regulation. Unfortunately, it was Adrian who scored said tally, tying up the game which was destined for overtime. Each team got three shots on net in the five-minute sudden death format, but not a single one of those six shots got past the goalkeeper. In the end it was the Raiders who settled for their third tie of the season in a very competitive contest.
