Raiders Move On To Championship Series With 3-1 Win

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. – MSOE hockey was determined to make up for last night. After giving up a late lead to Adrian less than 24 hours ago, the Raiders once again jumped out to a large advantage but did not let this one go as the Red & White advance in the Harris Cup Finals with a two-goal win over the south's top seed on Saturday afternoon.

FINAL SCORE
No. 3 Seed MSOE – 3
No. 1 Seed Adrian – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
Last night ended in a 3-3 overtime tie after MSOE (10-5-2, 3-4-1, NCHA South) gave up three unanswered goals to Adrian (16-6-1, 8-0-0 NCHA South) in the third period, but the Raiders were determined not to have history repeat itself. After a scoreless first period, the Red & White scored their first goal of the game when David Marabella and Kevin Paganini set up Nigel Nelson at 1:29 of the second frame. Matt Hanewall made it 2-0 good guys about 14 minutes later thanks to helpers from Jack Nickels and Christian Sabin. The Bulldogs finally found the back of the net to start the scoring in the third, but Jeff Makowski would get it back just three minutes later thanks to a pass set up by Garrett Gintoli and Kyle Herbster to keep the Raiders up by two. Adrian did not help out their own cause by taking two final period penalties and MSOE outshot AC 13-8 as the Raiders advance to the Harris Cup Playoff finals next weekend with a 3-1 win.
