Box Score AURORA, Ill. – MSOE men's hockey entered play having already secured a NCHA playoff spot but home ice in the first round was still up for grabs. Unfortunately, the Raiders were unable to help out their cause as No. 14 Aurora dealt them a 6-3 loss in Illinois.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
No. 14 Aurora – 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a big No. 14 Aurora (16-7-1, 11-6-0-1 NCHA) first period that did MSOE (10-12-2, 8-8-1-0 NCHA) in this evening. The Spartans scored three straight goals in the opening 20 minutes to go up 3-0 before the Raiders could find the back of the net.
- The Red & White finally hit twine when CJ Kline buried a Stian Owens pass two minutes into the second frame and Christian Sabin brought them within one with the assist going to Kevin Paganini. Aurora scored shortly after the Raiders back-to-back strikes however to bring their lead back to two heading into the final period of play.
- The Raiders once again kickstarted the scoring with a Kyle Herbster strike on the power play but it was all Spartans after that. Aurora would add two more to their total to take home the three-goal victory and clinch one of the two remaining home playoff slots.
RAIDER REMARKS
- This was Aurora's second win over the Raiders this season. The Spartans took down MSOE 4-3 back on January 19th in a non-conference matchup.
- Garrett Gintoli won a game high 17 faceoffs inside the circles. He also assisted on Herbster's extra man goal.
