Raiders Track & Field Preview - Jan. 14th at Cardinal Opener

MSOE Track & Field Meet Preview

Vital Information

Cardinal Opener
Saturday, January 14th | 11:00 am
Naperville, Ill. | Al B. Carius Track

Men's Team

After a second place finish to begin their season at the University of Chicago's Phoenix Indoor Invite, the Raiders are back in action but will face some stiff competition. Host North Central College has won every indoor and outdoor CCIW championship since 2017 and has collected 12 national titles overall. The Cardinals will field a tough team amongst a relatively small field at the meet, one that will see the Red & White also go up against U of C for the second straight weekend along with other regional rivals.

Events To Watch

  • 5,000 meter run
    • Last Time Out: No Results This Season
    • The Raiders will be trying to solidify their distance dominance over the conference for another year and will be looking to create the foundation for the indoor season that will hopefully lead to a spot in the fast section at the indoor conference championships in February.
  • Shotput
    • Last Time Out: Keegan Rhodes – 3rd place (13.73m)
    • The Red & White field athletes have improved greatly over the past few seasons but the throwing events have stood out in their growth. Look for the team to keep increasing their marks after placing four in the top five over two events last week.

Women's Team

The Red & White women also came in second last weekend at the Phoenix Invite and will face strong teams on their side as well. The distance events will have the most competition from the Maroon as the University of Chicago lost this year's NCAA D-III National Championship by only thee points. On the field side, the Raiders will look to keep improving after an already impressive start of the season with several top three finishes to their name after one meet.

Events To Watch

  • Mile Run
    • Last Time Out: Kaitlyn Rodman – 7th place (5:18.40)
    • Rodman broke the school's record in the event last week, a mark that she already owned and set back in 2022. While she was already named Ian's Pizza Raider of the Week and the NACC's female indoor track athlete of the week, the junior will look to improve on that time with her sights set on back to back national championship meets.
  • Shotput
    • Last Time Out: Katrina Wawrzn – 2nd place (12.40m)
    • Wawrzyn came in second place during her first collegiate competition last week where she also saw her teammates come in fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh in the same event. Garnering 11 of their 44.5 total points in just the shot alone, keep an eye on the results of this event not just for this week but throughout the season.
