Box Score MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's hockey looked to pick up three more points this afternoon when they took on Finlandia in the back half of their two game series. Though there wasn't much action to speak of in the first two periods, the Raiders lit the lamp three times in the third to sweep the Lions and improve their playoff picture.
FINAL SCORE
Finlandia – 0
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first two periods featured a lot of shots but not a lot of action up on the board for MSOE (14-7, 9-5 NCHA). The Raiders took a total of 31 shots in the first 40 minutes but had nothing to show for it after two periods in a 0-0 tie.
- Thankfully, the Red & White defense did their job in keeping Finlandia (3-16-1, 2-12 NCHA) off the scoresheet as well. After nine shots in the first, the Raiders allowed just four attempts in the second and matched that total in the third even though the Lions got six different chances on the man-up opportunity.
- MSOE finally put the biscuit in the basket at 7:53 when Carson Jones set up Christian Sabin for a shorthanded tally in what proved to be the game winning goal. Jackson Hughes would follow less than a minute and a half later to make it 2-0 with the assist going to Rowan Barnes before Matt Hanewall closed out the action at 18:10 with a solo strike of his own. The Raiders outshot the Lions 43-17 in a 3-0 blanking at home.
RAIDER REMARKS
- Freshman goalie Austin Schwab entered the Raiders record books with his performance this afternoon. The 3-0 victory was his fourth shutout of the season which ties Nick Kohn and Connor Toomey for the most shutouts in a single season in program history.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
- The Raiders will enter the last two series of the regular season with 28 points, currently good for the fourth seed if the Harris Cup Playoffs were to start today. They are just three points out of a top three seed but have Trine and Lake Forest to worry about behind them with 25 and 20 points respectively.
