Fouls, Edgewood Free Throws Hinder Women's Basketball

Box Score

MADISON, Wis. – MSOE women's basketball traveled to the state capital to try and close out the month of January with a win against Edgewood. While the Raiders hung in the game, fouls and free throws came back to haunt them in a 67-58 loss to the Eagles on Saturday.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 58
Edgewood – 67

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MSOE (4-15, 3-9 NACC) played right alongside one of the top teams in the NACC this afternoon and didn't give Edgewood (12-7, 9-3 NACC) much breathing room in the first half. The Raiders used quarters with point totals of 13 and 16 to stay within four of the Eagles heading into the second half.
  • Edgewood had a push in them to start the third though that the Red & White couldn't stop. A 12-0 run helped create distance between the two ballclubs but MSOE tried their best to overcome their deficit in the final stanza.
  • The Raiders got seven points from Raekyiah Williams in the fourth quarter and were able to get within five after an Ella Mensen jumper with 3:23 left to play. The Eagles forced the Red & White's comeback to an early end though with seven of the games last ten points going in their favor in a nine tally MSOE loss on Saturday.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders committed only eight turnovers, but the Eagles were able to convert them into 13 points. Edgewood on the other hand had 13 miscues but the Raiders were only able to capitalize with a pair of baskets inside the arc.
  • Junior Chloe Kurkjian's 14 rebounds was just one away from tying her single game career high of 15 which she set back in November of 2021.
  • Where things really went wrong for the Raiders was in the foul department. They committed a total of 22 personal fouls which lead to 20 points for Edgewood.
