Box Score MILWAUKEE – MSOE women's basketball hit the road to begin play in 2023 with a tough contest against crosstown rival Wisconsin Lutheran. The Raiders were able to hang with the Warriors in a low scoring affair but one bad quarter and second chances at the rim sank the Red & White's hopes of an upset to begin the back half of the season.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 36
Wisconsin Lutheran – 43
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (3-9, 2-3 NACC) didn't have the easiest of opponents when they returned to action after the holiday break as they took on a Wisconsin Lutheran (7-5,4-1 NACC) squad that was ranked in the national polls earlier this season. The Raiders hung right with the Warriors in the first quarter though and were only down by five after ten minutes.
- However, the second frame proved to be deadly for the Red & White's hopes once again. MSOE made just two shots from the field which allowed WLC to open up a 13 point advantage by halftime.
- The Warriors increased their lead to 16 before the Raiders started to rally. The Red & White went on an 8-0 run and drew within six points with one period left to play.
- Unfortunately, the contest came down to second chances as the Raiders weren't able to gain any ground in the final stanza. The Warriors outpaced the Raiders in offensive rebounds 14-5 which allowed WLC to net ten extra points they might have not had the chance to score otherwise in a seven point win over MSOE.
RAIDER REMARKS
- WLC has been one of the toughest teams for the Raiders to beat historically and tonight's loss moves their streak without a victory over the Warriors to 24 games.
- Mahima Chokshi's 18 points tonight marks a new single game high for Red & White players this season.
