MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team picked up their first conference victory in a thrilling victory over Alverno College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• MSOE (6-16, 1-10 NACC) came out of the gates firing with a 5-1 run to begin, eventually extending it as large as 18-6, just as Alverno (1-19, 1-10 NACC) rattled its first consecutive points, an 8-0 run sparked by a kill from Abby Balkema ended the first set with a massive 25-8 victory.
• The Inferno eventually found their level midway through set, posing a 5-0 run to take a 14-9 lead. A kill from Ana Knutson turned the momentum their way all the way to set point until it see-sawed back to the Inferno with a 7-1 run to knot it back at one set each.
• The Raiders regain their play from set one with a lead as large as eight 21-13, eventually taking the third set 25-18. While the Inferno found their back tying the set at 17 all, a kill from Emma Schattschneider started an 8-2 run that a Joelle Harrington service ace ending the night for a 25-19 final set victory.

The Raiders return to action tomorrow in a tri-match hosted by Mount Mary University. The Red & White will face Marantha Baptist University at 2:30 PM, followed by Luther College at 6:30 PM.
