RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE women's volleyball team found themselves with an early lead Saturday afternoon at Concordia University Chicago but couldn't put the finishing touches on, falling just short.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Concordia Chicago - 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the first point went to Concordia Chicago (8-11, 2-4 NACC), MSOE (5-12, 0-6 NACC) exploded to a 10-2 run capped off by a kill from Emma Schattschneider. The Cougars used small runs to cut in on the lead, but an Emily Stratton kill capped on the first set victory 25-18. The Cougars didn't let the Raiders start hot again in set two as they even took a 17-16 lead midway through. Whoever served last seemed to be the one who would take the set, trading blows as kill from Samantha Johnson was the point to seal in 25-22.
- The Cougars finally found an early spark in set three with the Raiders not having attacks seeming to fall. With the Cougars cruising in set three 25-13, the Raiders needed to refocus in set four, doing just that tying the set at 18. Even then, the Cougars rattled off the final points they need to force a fifth set winning 25-22.
- Five straight points from the Raiders was matched by six from the Cougars to start the fifth set proving to be anyone's for the taking. The Red & White then found themselves down by three and couldn't find their way to take another lead or even tie up the set, falling just 15-13.
