Box Score ASHWAUBENON, Wis. – Having already locked down an NCHA playoff slot, MSOE men's hockey had their sights set on improving their chances for a home ice opening tournament series when they took on 14th ranked St. Norbert. The Raiders got off to a good start but a strong second period for SNC put the game out of reach in a three goal Red & White loss.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
No. 14 St. Norbert – 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (14-8, 9-6 NCHA) knew that they had a tough task ahead of them when they went up against No. 14 St. Norbert (13-7-2, 10-4-1 NCHA) shorthanded but they tried their best to get off to a good start when Jackson Hughes set up Matt Hanewall for the games first goal at 5:46 in the opening period.
- Unfortunately, the Raiders lead would be short lived. The next four pucks that found the back of the net belonged to the Green Knights. SNC tied up the game at 1-1 with 54 seconds left to go in the first before scoring three unanswered in the second.
- The Red & White finally got back on the board in the waning moment of the middle frame thanks to a Gramm McCormack and Ryan Reid pass that allowed Christian Sabin to score on the power play but that was all the offense the Raiders could muster.
- The Green Knights added an empty net goal with seven seconds left in the game to ice the contest, sending MSOE to a 5-2 loss to open the series.
RAIDER REMARKS
- The Raiders are now 2-8 over their last ten games against SNC. Their last victory over the Green Knights came back in November of 2018.
- MSOE went 1-3 on the power play while they limited St. Norbert to zero goals on two extra man chances.
- Austin Schwab's 26 saves pushed him over the 400 mark on the season. The freshman currently has 423 with three regular season games remaining.
