Raiders Split with Stars

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Raiders return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play Friday afternoon at the home of the Schaumburg Boomers, splitting a double-header with Dominican University.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 4
Dominican – 5
MSOE RAIDERS – 7
Dominican - 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • Micah Overley got the Raiders on the board early bring Chris Barnes in to score in top of the first to make the game 1-0. Multiple errors by MSOE (18-12, 10-8 NACC) over the course of the next few innings led to Dominican (15-17, 8-10 NACC) jumping ahead 4-1 after five innings of play.
    • The Raiders worked their way back in the top of the sixth as Sam Meidenbauer and Brandon Besch opened the inning each reaching on singles to left. William Blank hit a soft ball played by the catcher thrown away allowing both Meidenbauer and Besch to come around to get within one. Batters later, Barnes grounded out to the pitcher getting Blank in to tie the game at four. The Stars answered in the bottom half with a run of their own, holding down the Raider offense the rest of game one to hold on 5-4.
  • Game Two
    • Each offense couldn't find a rhythm to begin game two as Tyler Gronert got the start as he went six innings with four strikeouts and only allowing one earned run. The Stars broke the scoreless frames in the bottom of the fifth, but the Raiders took a 3-1 lead in the bottom the seventh inning from miscues by the Stars. Another run from the Stars came in the bottom of the inning, but it was all Raiders the rest of the way closing out the 7-2 victory.
RAIDER REMARKS
