Raiders Tournament Run Comes to a Close to Eagles

MEQUON, Wis. – A rematch of last's conference tournament championship game, it unfortunately went the opposite as the MSOE baseball team's tournament run comes to a close in a tough extra inning loss to Edgewood College.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 6
Edgewood - 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edgewood (26-17, 15-9 NACC) struck first with a two run double in the top of the first, but MSOE (26-14, 16-8 NACC) easily stayed close with Kyle Labedz ripping through the right side to bring Collin Truitt in to score, followed by Cobey Alderden hitting a sac fly to left bringing Sam Meidenbauer to score to tie the game at two.
  • A three run fifth inning from the Eagles hope to bring a big momentum swing to their side, but a overthrow on steal by Blake Hall to third allowed him to advance home to cut into their deficit. A bases loaded single from Micah Overley brought Alderden to score, but that's all they could put on the board to stay down 5-4.
  • Another run from the Eagles in the seventh was what they hoped to put the game away, but the Raiders refused to back down in the bottom of the eighth as with two men on, a hit from Truitt to the first baseman allowed Chris Barnes to come in to stay within a run. As Meidenbauer stepped in next, a hit back to the first baseman wasn't playable as Hall was able to score and the Raiders tied the game and forced extras. Unfortunately, the Raider defense couldn't control the ball in the infield, allowing to run to score in the 11th to end the Raiders run.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders now put their faith the committee to receive a bid for the NCAA tournament as they are regionally ranked and are receiving a vote in the National Poll. The selection show is on Monday, May 15th at 11 AM.
