Softball's Tournament Comeback Falls Short

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – MSOE softball overcame a rough start to the NACC tournament to make it to championship Saturday with two wins the day before. However, to officially complete the comeback the Raiders would need victories over both Dominican and Concordia Wisconsin. The Red & White exacted revenge against the Stars but couldn't get past the Falcons as they fell two victories short of the NACC crown.

RESULTS
No. 3 Dominican – 3
No. 2 MSOE RAIDERS – 5

No. 2 MSOE RAIDERS – 3
No. 1 Concordia Wisconsin – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs. No. 3 Dominican
    • MSOE (32-11) began play on Saturday against third seeded Dominican (31-11), the only team that was able to beat them so far in the conference tournament. After that initial meeting opened up with the Stars getting on the board first, the Raiders set the pace when Lauren Stefanczyk singled in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0.
    • The Red & White added one more in the third before making a statement in the fourth. Jenna O'Donnell tripled to left field with two on to make it 4-0 MSOE and Grace Salaja added another to that total one batter later with a single to bring O'Donnell across.
    • Kennedy Lehn continued her torrid pace from a day earlier and brought a no-hitter into the seventh inning. The Stars tried to rally to save their season and ended up scoring three, but they'd fall short to allow MOSE to advance to the championship round.
  • vs. No. 1 Concordia Wisconsin
    • Standing in their way of the NACC tournament title was top seeded Concordia Wisconsin, a team that hadn't lost to a conference foe all season. The Raiders would need to best them twice in order to eliminate them and earn the automatic bid into the NCAA postseason.
    • MSOE got off to a good start, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to three miscues on the Falcons end in the frame. Unfortunately, errors would work against the Red & White too.
    • With two out and still up 2-0 in the bottom of the third, a Raiders defensive miscue allowed CUW to score five unearned runs in the inning. This would end up being the downfall of MSOE's season as they'd only push one other run across in a two tally defeat.
RAIDER REMARKS
  • The Raiders went 3-1 against third seeded Dominican this season but saw their campaign come to a close for a second straight year with a loss to Concordia Wisconsin in a NACC championship contest.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
