MILWAUKEE – It was a big day for MSOE softball. Not only did they officially dedicate MSOE Raiders Field and celebrated their seniors with ceremonies before and after the game, the Red & White had a chance to lock down the second seed and a first game bye in the NACC softball tournament. The Raiders let the good times roll as they blew past the Green Knights of St. Norbert to lock down a coveted spot in the conference playoffs with back-to-back routs.
RESULTS
*Five Innings*
St. Norbert – 1
MSOE RAIDERS – 9
St. Norbert – 1
MSOE Raiders – 8
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- St. Norbert (13-24-1, 7-14-1 NACC) was in trouble right from the start with MSOE's (27-9, 19-3 NACC) Kennedy Lehn on the mound. The senior struck out seven of the first nine batters she saw and proved to be dominant with just two hits given up to the Green Knights all game.
- The Raiders got the bats going in the third, scoring three runs in the frame. Faith Matta tripled after a Grace Salaja single to net the first tally which was followed by RBI hits from Jenna Trewyn and Lauren Stefanczyk.
- The big stanza came one inning later though. The Red & White plated five more in the fourth, a frame that was highlighted by home runs from Jocelyn Clodi and Morgan Long. MSOE scored another run off a wild pitch in the fifth to enact the mercy rule and take the game 9-1.
- Game Two
- It looked like the second battle of the day would end up being a lot closer. The Raiders bats were quiet with only one hit for their efforts in the first three innings. Down 1-0, the MSOE bats came alive in the fourth, but they were stonewalled at home plate and still faced a one run deficit moving into the second half of the contest.
- The fifth proved to be the magic inning for the Raiders for the second straight game and was kickstarted by Caroline Fouras' first career home run. Matta then scored Adeline Kortman, who was on to pinch run for Grace Brown, and was followed by RBIs from Trewyn, Long, and Stefanczyk.
- The Raiders added three more in the sixth and Lehn handled SNC to wrap up a quality start from Sarah Grossman in the 8-1 victory.
