Raiders Secure Tenth Win of Season Against Cougars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE women's basketball team got their tenth win of the season Wednesday night as they visited Concordia University Chicago.  The Raiders held the lead almost the entire contest and held off a frenzied late comeback from the Cougars.

RESULT

MSOE RAIDERS – 60

Concordia University Chicago - 54

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (10-4, 4-1 NACC) and CUC (5-8, 2-3 NACC) traded baskets to open the contest, with the Raiders scoring first on a Nicole Levine layup. Dani Mendez frustrated the Cougars down low and added three free throws in the first six minutes of the game. Levine followed it up with a big three point shot to give the Raiders and early 12-6 lead. Following a Halena Hill three, the Raiders ended the first quarter up five points, 15-10.
  • The Raiders would increase their lead to eight points in the second quarter, but the Cougars would not go quietly and fought back to tie the game at the midway mark of the quarter.  The Cougars would go on to take the lead, but the Raiders immediately swung the lead back in their favor after an 8-0 run.  Hill scored six straight points to close the half with the Raiders up 31-25.
  • The Raiders would go on to control the lead the entire third quarter, increasing their lead to as much as 11 points off a Levine fast break layup.  The Raiders maintained their lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars would go on to mount a furious comeback with less than five minutes remaining.  The Cougars went on a 14-5 run to bring it to 53-50 in favor of the Raiders, but Hill would hit a jumper that would force the Cougars hand, and after four Mahima Chokshi free throws, the Raiders secured the victory, 60-54.
