Women's Volleyball Secures Thrilling Victory at Inferno

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team saw tricks and treats in their crosstown match with Alverno College after dropping the first set to pulling off a thrilling comeback in the final set to secure a much-needed victory.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 3

Alverno - 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (12-14, 4-7 NACC) was battle-tested early when things were tied up midway through at 13 before a 6-0 run that was capped by back-to-back service aces from Morgan Borchardt put the Raiders ahead 19-13. Alverno (3-20, 0-11 NACC) played lights out from there with two long runs to steal the first set 25-23. Shades of the first set blended their way into set two when after things were tied at 10, Ava Larson helped spark a run to go up 20-12. Inferno miscues haunted them as the Raiders tied things up 25-17.
  • The Raiders were able to come out to a fast start after a kill from Hannah Gilbert sparked a run to go ahead 8-3. The Raiders continued to slowly increase their lead, adding aces from Nina De La Cruz and Ashley Murphy, when Abby Balkema capped things with a kill for a 25-12 set three win. The Inferno came out in the fourth on a complete heater, building a 9-0 lead to start, completely flipping the momentum to their end.
  • The Raiders didn't panic one bit, bringing their deficit down to two after a run with back-to-back aces from Brooke Fledderman. The Inferno lead was no more after a kill from Balkema tied things at 20. A kill from Sydney Emineth overtook the lead 22-21 when back-to-back kills from Annabella Visak and Ana Knutson put in the final nail 25-22.
