SAINT PETER, Minn. – In their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015, the MSOE men's soccer team finishes in a heartbreaker against host Gustavus Adolphus College Saturday afternoon.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Gustavus Adolphus - 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gustavus Adolphus (16-1-3, 8-0-2 MIAC) tested Asher Harris in net early on with the first three shots, two of those being saved with ease. Ditar Useni got the first opportunity for MSOE (12-4-6, 8-2-2 NACC) in the 12th, missing just lower right. Midway through the half, the Gusties struck for both the goal and the goal post to open the scoring, holding the lead at the break.
- The Raider defense stepped up big time, holding the Gusties to just one shot. Midway through the second half, a corner kick from Zach Thompson that was passed around in the box found the foot of Braeden Roth to tie up the game at one. Minutes later, that one shot the Raiders allowed to Gusties to have was able to reach the back of the net for the lead. The Raiders had a handful of opportunities left in the match, including two back-to-back from Steven Arthur just hitting the post and trailing just right, for an unfortunate ending to the season.
