DUBUQUE, Iowa – The MSOE women's hockey team competed in the opening round of the Mississippi Match-Up hosted by the University of Dubuque on Friday night, as the Raiders fell to the host Spartans after surrendering three first-period goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Raiders (2-6-1, 1-4-1 NCHA) fell behind at the 7:10 mark of the first period as the Spartans (1-6-1, 0-5-1 NCHA) took the early lead in the first round of the Thanksgiving weekend tournament.  Dubuque would extend their lead two and a half minutes later, adding another even strength goal before going up 3-0 on the Red and White with just over six minutes to play in the first.  MSOE would strike back as Arial Lapsa and Kiera Ballwegg assisted Lexi Jackson cut the MSOE deficit to 3-1 with less than four minutes to go in the opening frame.
• After a scoreless second period that saw the Spartans narrowly outshoot the Raiders 15-14, the Raiders looked to turn the tide in the third.  After killing off a penalty in the opening minutes of the final frame, the Red and White went on the offensive, with Amelia Jutz and Sara Kopf getting good looks from the point but nothing finding the back off the net.  Despite getting a late power play opportunity, 56 seconds was not long enough for the Raiders to complete the comeback as they fell 3-1.
