APPLETON, Wis. – The MSOE men's hockey team opened conference Friday night, traveling up north to Lawrence University. Quick starts in the first and third periods from the Vikings proved great dividends as the Raiders fell short late in their comeback.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Lawrence - 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite MSOE (0-2-1, 0-1-0 NCHA) coming out of the gates in the first period racking up 13 shots, it was Lawrence (2-1-0, 1-0-0 NCHA) who emerged first just 2:19 in for an early 1-0 lead. The Raiders rattled off eight of those shots all in a row midway through but couldn't convert as the Vikings held the lead at the first intermission.
- The Vikings upped their shot total in the second period, outshooting the Raiders 11-6. Despite the change of pace, neither team could put one past the goaltenders as the second period remained scoreless. Just 1:33 into the third, the Vikings extended their lead to two but after a powerplay opportunity for the Raiders later in the third, Cole Beilke and Ethan Mann helped find Jacob Bosse to cut into deficit 2-1. With Vikings heavily keeping things on their offensive end the remainder of the game, an empty netter with under a minute to play sealed things for them.
