Softball Opens Season with a Split

Leesburg, Fla. – MSOE softball opened their season splitting games between Albertus Magnus and Susquehanna, as the Raiders found themselves on both ends of a shutout in an up and down day.

RESULTS
Albertus Magnus College – 0
MSOE RAIDERS – 9

MSOE RAIDERS – 0
Susquehanna University – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vs Albertus Magnus
    • MSOE and Albertus Magnus were scoreless through two until the Raiders bats came alive in a six-run third inning.  Alyssa Jacobson knocked in the first run of the season without swinging the bat, as she drew a bases loaded walk to give the Raiders the lead.
    • Jenna Trewyn would bring home two more with a single to centerfield, followed up by RBI knocks from both Celine Pacheco and Jocelyn ClodiSadie Gaberell knocked in another before being thrown out trying to stretch out a double as the Raiders ended the third inning up 6-0.
    • The Raiders would add three more in the top of the fourth as Carlee Emery drew a walk to load the bases before Pacheco tripled to left field and cleared the bases to give the Raiders a 9-0 lead.
  • Vs Susquehanna
    • The Raiders and Hawks faced off in a pitchers' duel, with neither team mustering much of anything at the plate.  After issuing back-to-back walks to open the game, freshmen Whitney Ruffcorn settled in, allowing only three hits through her first five innings of work.
    • The Raiders had the chance to take the lead in the third after Caroline Fouras reached on an error.  Fouras advanced around the bases before being stranded on third to close the inning.
    • Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Jayda Nelson delivered a big hit to try and spark a rally from the Raiders, but an untimely GIDP would spell the end for MSOE as they split their games on opening day.
RAIDER REMARKS
  • Katie Pollock earned her first career win against Albertus Magnus, pitching five scoreless innings while racking up nine strikeouts and allowing only two hits in her first start.
