Raiders Lose Narrow 6-5 Battle to the Thunder

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The MSOE men's lacrosse team dropped their first game of the season on Saturday, in a 6-5 heartbreaker to the Thunder of Trine University.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 5
Trine Thunder - 6

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (2-1, 0-0 NACC) and the Thunder (3-1) traded the momentum in the first half, with the Thunder controlling most of the first period in a defensive minded battle.  After ended the first period behind 1-0, the Raiders would surrender two more goals in the opening half of the second frame to fall behind the Thunder 3-0.  Dawson Smith would score off a feed from Peter Russchenberg before the pair switched roles to bring the Raiders back within a goal.  Soren Savard would tie the game for the Raiders off a Russchenberg feed at the 3:34 mark in the second quarter, with Viets Field erupting in support of the Raiders.  With the bleachers full of both Raider and Thunder faithful, Trine and MSOE entered halftime knotted up a 3-3.
  • Trine would score just over a minute into the third quarter to retake the lead, before Russchenberg, who finished with four points, added his second goal to tie things back up at 4-4.  The Raiders trailed by one going into the fourth, when Case Roberts answered the bell for the Raiders with an unassisted game-tying goal with less then ten minutes to play.  The Thunder go ahead 6-5 with five minutes left in the contest, and despite an offensive frenzy from MSOE, the Raiders would run out of time and drop their first contest of the season.
