Softball Sweeps the Inferno of Alverno

MADISON, Wis. – MSOE softball clashed with Alverno College on Thursday, as the Raiders swept the Inferno to get back to .500.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 11
Alverno Inferno – 0

MSOE RAIDERS – 5
Alverno Inferno – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • The Raiders (11-11, 6-2 NACC) put up seven runs on the Inferno (3-13, 1-9 NACC) in the first inning, as the Raiders batted around the order before recording an out.  Jocelyn Clodi drove in Jenna O'Donnell and Jayda Nelson on a single to center, before Caroline Fouras capped off the Raider rally with a bases loaded bunt single to bring the lead to 7-0.
    • Katie Pollock went the first four innings, shutting out Alverno and recording four strikeouts to only one walk.  Whitney Ruffcorn closed out the game for the Raiders on the mound as MSOE racked up 12 hits while committing zero errors in an 11-0 win in five innings.
  • Game Two
    • MSOE took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning thanks to RBI singles from both Celine Pacheco and Fouras.  Alverno would chip away at the Raiders lead in the third, before tying the game up in the fourth at 3-3.
    • The Raiders would finally take the lead back in the bottom of the fifth on a Jenna Trewyn sacrifice fly that brought Faith Matta home for the go-ahead run.  Pollock would enter the game in relief of Finnley Olsen and work her way out of a jam in both the fourth and sixth innings.  Pollock would hold on after giving up a lead-off double in the top of the seventh, earning her tenth win of the season, as the Raiders improve to 6-2 in conference play.
